The Nautilus (2004)

The Nautilus (2004)

for Trumpet, Trombone, and Tuba

This piece was a part of a study in atonal music. It is based on a twelve tone row which appears contrapuntally in all three parts at the beginning and end of the piece. The middle section is faster and more rhythmic than the exterior sections and acts as a hocketed accompaniment between the trombone and tuba with a trumpet melody. The parts act together to trace a spiral outline of the twelve tone chart I used, effectively creating the shape of a nautilus.
