Tim Rogers is a composer, pianist, percussionist, and higher education administrator based in Austin, Texas. He has Masters degrees in Education Policy Studies (MA- 2012) from the University of Maryland – College Park and Music Composition (MM-2008) from the University of Texas at Austin. While earning his Composition degree from UT, he studied with Don Grantham, Dan Welcher, Bruce Pennycook and Yevgeniy Sharlat and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. In May 2006, he graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Composition and Music Theory from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where he studied with Stefan Freund and W. Thomas McKenney.
Rogers has taken part in master classes with such composers as Donald Crockett and John Adams. He has composed for solo piano, small chamber ensembles, orchestra, chorus, and symphonic wind ensemble. Rogers has had pieces premiered by the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America, the Columbia (Missouri) Civic Orchestra, the O’Fallon (Illinois) Township High School Chamber Choir, the University of Texas New Music Ensemble, and the trombone and percussion ensembles at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Recently, his Sonata for Trombone and Piano was performed at the Eastern Trombone Workshop and his piece, convolution, for trombone choir was selected for publication by the International Trombone Association Press.
Besides composing, Rogers is a pianist and percussionist, and has taken part in Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Combo, and Percussion Ensemble at the University of Missouri and New Music Ensemble at the University of Texas. Most recently, Rogers was one of two solo pianists with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble for a performance of John Adams’ Grand Pianola Music during a week of concerts and other activities honoring Adams while he was in residence. Rogers has also worked in numerous musical theater productions as an accompanist, keyboardist, and assistant musical director, including You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, The Fantasticks, and Footloose.
Rogers lives in Central Texas with his wife and their cats, where he enjoys reading, gardening, playing video games, obsessing over The Muppets, and planning trips to Disney World.
