Shadows Under the Door (2007)
for Harp and Marimba
This piece grew from my desire to write a piece for harp, and address my history as a percussionist. In it, I used two contrasting ideas: the first, as seen in the opening, is the unity of the harp and marimba as some other combined instrument, exploring some of the unconventional sounds of both. The second, comprising the interior of the piece, is structured as a nearly minimalistic perpetual motion episode. The mood of the opening then returns, causing a final uncertainty.
